Myofascial Release (MFR) Techniques

Female holding shoulder in pain

Myofascial Release Techniques is a movement based massage technique that is used to treat problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, fascia and nerves. This alternative medicine therapy is typically indicated in situations that result in over-used muscles (and other soft tissues). This may include acute conditions (“pulls”, tears, strains, sprains, etc.), and chronic conditions (postural problems, repetitive stress, etc.). Throughout the entire treatment, the doctor or therapist evaluates the texture, tightness, position, and movement of the abnormal or injured tissues. Abnormal tissues are then treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. This patented form of soft tissue treatment is used to treat headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciopathy, knee problems, tennis elbow, and many more.

You do not need a doctor’s note or prescription. Myofascial release techniques can be effective as a primary treatment, or as an adjunct to other therapeutic interventions such as physiotherapy and chiropractic care.
